About Mahony Estate Wines

Mahony Estate Wines is a boutique winery and vineyard in Fordwich, in the heart of the Hunter Valley’s Broke Fordwich wine region. Established in 1990, the estate is owned by Derek Mahony, who brings a passion for wine, the land and the art of hospitality to this special corner of the Hunter Valley.

From our cellar door, guests can discover our wines while enjoying the beauty and tranquillity of the estate. With on-site accommodation, wine tasting, and special events, Mahony Estate offers an opportunity to slow down, stay awhile and experience the Hunter Valley at its best.

Winemaking

Wine quality begins in the vineyard. The grapes provide the raw elements that are required for wine, and it is the winemaker’s role to identify the characters that are available to work with. This requires a unique blend of science and art wrapped up in experience. A winemaker applies their skills with the goal of producing the best wine possible from what nature has provided. This is the challenge that is accepted every year and is what makes every wine unique for the producer.

At Mahony Estate our winemaking philosophy is driven by a desire to allow the wine to express its natural character. Processes such as fermentation, clarification and preparation for bottling use traditional techniques that guide the wine through a natural evolution. Each wine displays its own personality that is teased out with passion and attention to detail.
